Lesson learned: Make sure shot bear is dead

A 22-year-old Medford, Ore. hunter learned a painful lesson and suffered multiple injuries when he attempted to retrieve a bear he and a partner shot and the still-alive bruin attacked. "They thought it was dead because it was laying there," said Jim Collom of the OSP Fish and Wildlife Division. "To make sure something is dead, confirm it with the barrel. It's always good to go up with your gun and make sure it's dead."
