Veterans post finds forgotten 1917 machine gun

While doing some cleaning recently, the members of Catholic War Veterans Post 370 in Belleville, Illinois discovered a Lewis .30-caliber machine gun, manufactured in 1917 by Savage Arms Co. The gun is now being held by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Dept. The man with the best lawmaker's name in the country—Sheriff Mearl Justus—said he'd like to display the gun with the department's other machine gun, a Thompson. Belleville News-Democrat.
