E. Kentucky town wants elk-depredation hunt extended

Landowners in and around Stoney Fork will have an opportunity to kill cow elk in a special hunt between Jan. 26 and Feb. 8 to thin a growing herd of the reintroduced species in Eastern Kentucky, where the animals trample gardens and are causing an increasing number of traffic accidents in the region. Residents and city leaders are working with the Kentucky Department of Wildlife to extend the program after this year. AP.
