500 otters trapped in Illinois' first season since 1929

G12c0000000000000007bef130447b6a5e1a1a99e70c1f392d8aa1ba52cWith the prime weeks still ahead for Illinois furbearer trappers, about 500 otters have been registered so far in the state's first trapping season for the mammal since 1929. Since their reintroduction in Illinois from 1994-1997, otters have thrived, with populations growing quickly — so quickly that they occasionally become nuisances, cleaning out fishing ponds near rivers and streams. State Journal-Register.
