Cook Country drops bullet tax, retains gun surcharge

The Cook County (Illinois) Board has dropped its effort to impose a so-called "violence tax" of 5 cents per bullet for all ammunition sold in the county, which includes the City of Chicago. But under its latest plan, the County would impose a $25 tax on the sale of every firearm sold in gun and sporting goods stores, a move that is expected to raise $600,000 in revenue in 2013. Reuters.
