The Utah state fire marshall and other officials claim recreational shooters using tracer rounds, exploding targets and even traditional ammo are responsible for 19 wildfires in the state so far this year, though not everyone agrees with their findings. Clark Aposhian, chairman of the Utah Shooting Sports Council (USSC), said he isn’t ruling out shooting as causes for the fires, but said recreational activities like camping carry fire risks as well.
