The waterfowl breeding-population and habitat survey released last week by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Canadian Wildlife Service indicate overall 2009 duck numbers are up 25 percent. Further, the numbers reflect 78 percent more blue-winged teal (4.5 million) in the US than prairie Canada (2.5 million), together with the highest percentage of mallards since the survey began in 1955.
