Teenagers Zach Ramsey and Casey Sonaty were fishing and gigging frogs on the Iroquois River near Rensselaer, Indiana Sunday when they happened on an unusual sight for Hoosiers--a 6-foot alligator. The boys first attempted to kill the reptile with a bow and arrow, later opting for a 12-gauge shotgun. The Chesterton Tribune.
I've been hunting alligators commercially for 25 years and "never" have I "ever" caught one six-footer that would go 150 pounds. And, from the picture, I'll bet my annual income this one didn't weigh half that much either. But, that said, I'm glad to see young fellows like these out enjoying the great outdoors. This is one story the two will share all of their lives together and that's what it really is all about. I'm glad Indiana has no game laws concerning this, but watch for the Feds. This is a highly regulated animal, requiring a CITES tag if you're going to do anything with it. I could see these two young men wearing an alligator belt to school this fall.
