Ray Petersen, 96, a pioneer aviator credited with beginning the fly-in fishing industry in Alaska, died in Anchorage Tuesday. The Anchorage Daily News reports that Petersen brokered a deal with the National Park Service in 1950 to build lodges in what was then Katmai National Monument. Sportfishing now draws tens of thousands of anglers to the state yearly.
