Jacob Hopkins, 14, was fishing with his father near Colfax, Calif. on July 26, when he found a rock containing an estimated six ounces of gold, worth nearly $6,000. “We’ve been in this area for three years and know that whether you’re fishing, hiking or whatever, if you keep your eyes open you can find a nugget,” the elder Hopkins said.
