The U.S. Forest Service has pulled a controversial public service announcement in which Smokey Bear warns ATV riders not to start their vehicles, for fear of sparking a wildfire. Off-road enthusiasts, including the BlueRibbon Coalition, said the ad unfairly sends a message that riders should "just stay home," rather than instructing them to remain on marked paths and to use a properly installed spark arrestor. Reported by WorldnetDaily and AP.
ATV folks have only themselves to blame. I own 3 but I have seen the damage that a small minority can do in the forest. If we don't police our fellow riders then we should lose our access.
